The UCR School of Public Policy is hosting Omer Sohail, a Policy Analyst for Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, for a seminar on his journey as a union researcher operating both within and outside of state government to push for higher standards in this realm.
“I hope students can learn how government agencies and processes we don’t really think about like procurement and purchasing can incentivize employers to take the high road on issues like prevailing wage, discrimination and hiring equity,” Sohail said.
Additionally, he said, “Places like the IE have an abundance of jobs, but not necessarily ones that can support a family or allow one to sustain themselves and policymakers, advocates and civil servants need to have an understanding of what they can do to change that.”
The event will take place on Wednesday, February 14th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Pacific Time at the UCR Alumni and Visitors Center. For free in-person registration, visit here. For virtual webinar registration, visit here.
