Testimonials from Scholarship Recipients

Aaron Sanchez
"UCR’s Experiential Scholarship allowed me to extend my UCDC experience an additional month. It multiplied the marketable, on-the-job experience I was gaining while working full-time in one of the most professionally rewarding chapters of my life. If it weren’t for the kind, generous, and philanthropic contributions of UCR SPP’s family, I would not have been able to stay so long, make so many friends, and establish those professional networks."

"As a 2023 recipient of the Bob Stockton Scholarship Fund in Environmental Policy, I am incredibly grateful for this generous award. As a non-traditional student parent, this scholarship support allows me to provide for my children and me this quarter, which means fewer visits to food pantries, the allowance to pack healthy well, balanced lunches, and the elimination of an enormous amount of financial stress. Additionally, I can focus on my classwork, capstone research, and other scholastic pre-graduation needs."

"I am really thankful and appreciative of the WMWD Scholarship. Not only has the scholarship helped me further my education, but it has allowed me to focus on other priorities such as seeking internships and getting involved in other extracurricular activities that can help further my career. This scholarship has also motivated me to continue to stay diligent and be engaged with the work that I am doing."

"Receiving the Garde Scholarship Fund gave me the opportunity to finish my studies strong. As it provided an additional sense of security of maintaining a work-life balance that supports my school-involvement. As a first-generation student, the Fund has allowed me to continue shaping my undergraduate-career where I am taking part in experiences that I will carry into the workforce after graduation."

"The SPP scholarship has allowed me to continue my leadership position with an on-campus student organization where we focus on recruitment, retention, advocacy, & wellness for formerly incarcerated and system-impacted UCR students like myself. Notably, Underground Scholars Initiative was awarded this year's CIT Mental Health Equity Grant, where I led the grant writing process and continued to plan wellness workshops for students at large. In like manner, my volunteer role provides learning opportunities such as leadership, organizing, community education, and networking. The SPP scholarship also gave me more time to focus on my qualitative research studying housing insecurity in the Inland Empire."
