The Inland Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD), a research center of the UCR School of Public Policy, hosted a seminar by Dr. Stephanie Houston, Chair and Trustee of the San Bernardino Community College District on April 20, 2023 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the CE-CERT Building. The event addressed the critical needs of job quality, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth.

“If the Inland Region is to advance and compete economically, environmentally and sustainably in the future it will need to rely on the ingenuity of the education system to produce “outside of the box” thinkers and entrepreneurs. These are the future leaders who will envision and implement a future that moves beyond historical assumptions and patterns,” said Rick Bishop, co-director of ICSD.

The Randall Lewis seminars bring authorities to the forefront to present their expertise, such as law, transportation, governance, water, health, housing or education. These events focus on the Inland Region’s future growth and how this growth can proceed to improve the quality of life for residents and businesses in the area.

“I look forward to learning from individuals in the education sector, and how to synthesize both education and policy in order to better serve the Inland Region as Dr. Houston has,” said Giovanna Arena, a senior public policy student.
