The UCR School of Public Policy will be hosting a seminar by Dr. Robert Simmons III, Head of Social Impact for Micron Technology, on November 30th. The event, titled “They Taught Me More Than I Taught Them: What My Middle School Students Taught Me About Justice, Education Policy, and Philanthropy,” will last from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni and Visitors Center, and will feature how Simmons was influenced by his father’s incarceration and his former students. These experiences inspired his writing on race, as well as his role at Micron Technology.

As Head of Social Impact, Simmons leads philanthropic giving for Micron in North America on initiatives related to racial and gender equity, LGBTQIA matters, and STEM programming for marginalized youth.

“I am looking forward to hearing Dr. Simmons talk about his background and work,” said Alexandra Morales, a current public policy student who will serve as emcee for this event. “I think this a great opportunity to hear from an expert on racial equity.”
