On Friday, August 28th, the UCR School of Public Policy will be hosting a virtual seminar by Paulette Brown-Hinds on the role the Black Press has played in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
Brown-Hinds is the founder of Voice Media Ventures and the second-generation publisher of the VOICE and Black Voice News. She has served as the lead Black Media strategist for many statewide government and political campaigns. She is also an alumna and adjunct professor at UCR.
“It’s inspiring to see a successful Black woman like Dr. Paulette Brown-Hinds become so established within the media industry,” said Kamillah Pollard, junior public policy major and emcee for the online discussion. “It’s important to see just and honest representation in the media by people who look like and represent your background, especially in today’s current times.”
This event is open to the general public. Attendees must register to attend. Registrants will receive an email in advance of the event with a link to join.
Since 2014, the UCR School of Public Policy Seminar Series has been bringing policy makers, practitioners, and researchers to campus to talk about various policy issues facing the region and beyond. During the shelter-in-place order for California, all events are being held online. For more information about the series, visit spp.ucr.edu/events.
