On February 18th, the UCR School of Public Policy will be holding its first ever installment of its Student Spotlight Series, whose aim is to feature the work of high-achieving public policy students. The talk will feature two public policy majors, Samuel Roberts and Elizabeth Kavianian.

Samuel Roberts, a senior, will be presenting his work on “R’Vote Matters” a student voter registration initiative aimed at making students’ voices heard. He is currently developing an application that will allow students to vote through R’Web, working with the UC Office of the President and UCR's social media and communications teams to develop media raising awareness about the upcoming elections, and is creating a video series which will demystify the voting process for students and local community members.

In addition, Elizabeth Kavianian, also a senior, will be talking about “Reproductive Justice on R’Campus.” During her presentation she will be discussing “The College Student Right to Access Act” which will ensure that all students at public colleges in California will have access to medication abortion at their campus health center. She will talk about her “Wellness Express” project, the first safe-sex vending machine on UCR’s campus. Through her project she hopes to decrease the stigma of sexual health items and increase the accessibility to students.

The event will be held at Interdisciplinary South 1109, on Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

“It is inspiring to see the work that public policy students are doing UCR. I hope to learn how they designed and implemented their projects so I can one day create my own to help students and give back to the campus,” said Arleth Flores Aparicio, a second year public policy student.

The event is open to the general community. Those interested can register via spp-spring20.eventbrite.com. For more information about the panel, contact markma@ucr.edu.
